HISTORY OF CCIS AIRPORT
SERVICES

The Calgary International Airport (YYC) is the largest airport in the Prairie region, and it receives the third highest number of newcomers in Canada.
For over 25 years, CCIS has been providing airport reception services at the Calgary International Airport (YYC). We have a deep understanding about the important role that airport reception plays in helping newcomers establish an immediate sense of connection and belonging within their new communities.

- CCIS has been providing airport reception services as an integrated part of our initial resettlement and settlement support for refugees since 1997.
- CCIS’ airport services have continuously responded to the unique needs of various refugee populations, including Syrians, Yazidis, and Afghans.
- Since January 2021, CCIS has been providing airport services to Temporary Foreign Workers.
- In July 2022, CCIS began providing expanded airport services for other immigrants to Southern Alberta, through the CANNYYC initiative (Community Airport Newcomers Network – Calgary).

WHY DO WE PROVIDE AIRPORT SERVICES
FOR NEWCOMERS?

CANNYYC exists to respond to the increased need for onsite assistance and immediate settlement services at the Calgary International Airport for newcomers to Calgary and southern Alberta.
For all newcomers, regardless of their situations or immigration statuses, the presence of settlement supports immediately upon their arrival at the airport offers reassurance, and a sense of connection with their new community. Creating trusting relationship with newcomers from the moment they land in Calgary helps develop a sense of belonging, increases the likelihood that they will access further resources and services beyond their airport experiences, and expediates their overall settlement and integration into Canadian society.
